One of my favorite ways of kickstarting the writing brain is to interact with a beloved piece of media.  Especially one that makes you feel something!  Whether it's a favorite story, novel, fanfic, visual art, movie, show, game, or anything else, just taking in storytelling you enjoy can do double duty as rest and inspiration.

So, visit one of those today!  And please share with the class~  👀👀

doing this again 'cause the last one is very outdated

Name: Kia (They/Them)
Age group: 20s
Country: Australia
Subscription/Access Policy: Don't give out access to people unless we've been mutuals for awhile or already know each other.

Fannish Interests: Fic writing, editing, icons, reccing, meta
I like to post about: Just whatever I get up to in the week (mostly shorter posts). I'm also trying to make a habit of journaling any media I get into, but that's definitely a skill I need to work on.

About Me: Been on dreamwidth for about five months now. For a while I've mostly used my journal as a personal diary, but recently I've wanted to make more public posts about the various things I enjoy. I've kind of distanced myself from being online everywhere else, but I'm still up for meeting new people here. I'm ideally looking for other active journals to read and maybe become mutuals with. Don't have to be in the same fandoms, but as long as we have some common interests then that's good enough for me.
  • Other hobbies: Music, language learning, reading, gaming
  • I'm looking for people who are: Neurodivergent and/or queer people, nerds who post about fandom/media often (especially meta stuff but that's just personal preference), people interested in languages, people who post about cooking or just anyone who wants to see me scream into the void about things that vaguely matter to me
Journal Info:
  • Minors DNI
  • Occasional nsfw+vent posts (read intro post for more info)

I'm looking to meet people who: Neurodivergent and/or queer people, nerds who post about fandom/media often (especially meta stuff but that's just personal preference), people interested in languages, people who post about cooking or just anyone who wants to see me scream into the void about things that vaguely matter to me

My posting schedule tends to be: Anytime I want

When I add people, my dealbreakers are: Anyone under 18, not too picky with anything else but as long as we still click in some way then we're good (I think me saying that I'm queer should be enough of a signal though)

Name: flareonfury
Age: 30s
Location: Northeast USA
What's in your journal: both personal and fandom related stuff
What rating is your journal: Probably Teen? Or like PG really? Mostly profanity, honestly, and sometimes I get super depressed so that might not be everyone's jam.

Favourite Marvel comic/movie/tv show(s): I'm just going to say X-Men overall, however I do love the MCU, Spider-Man, and Fantastic Four. I'm especially partial to TAS for X-Men & Spider-man, X-Men Evolution, X-Men films, Fantastic Four films (2005-2008), Spectacular Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man. Everything Defenders from Netflix (which is part of the MCU now). The Gifted.
- Comicwise I know the most from the X-Men, and after that probably Spider-Man honestly. I've branched out a bit after the MCU into Avengers and other teams, but I still need to read a lot more. Some of my non-X-Men comic titles I enjoyed was Spider-Gwen, Hawkeye, Spider-Man/Deadpool.
- I tend to do a lot of research to catch up on things since I can't afford to buy a lot of the comics, so I usually check out the Marvel Database (prior to that existence, it was Wikipedia and the various BEAUTIFUL AND I MISS THEM GREATLY fansites of the early-to-mid 2000s)
Favourite Marvel character(s): Rogue, Cyclops, Madelyne Pryor, Emma Frost, Peter Parker, Felicia Hardy, Gwen Stacy (including the various AU versions!), Johnny Storm, Susan Storm, Jessica Jones, Carol Danvers, Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, Wanda Maximoff, Matt Murdock, Dinah Madani, Bucky Barnes, Kate Bishop, Clint Barton, Yelena Belova, Darcy Lewis,
Favourite Marvel pairing(s): I have so very many, many rare and non-canon so please be aware of that, but some of them are: Cyclops/Rogue, Cyclops/Emma Frost, Cyclops/Madelyne Pryor, Peter Parker/Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker/Felicia Hardy, Steve Rogers/Wanda Maximoff, Peter Parker/Wade Wilson, Peter Parker/Johnny Storm, Rogue/Johnny Storm, Darcy Lewis/almost everyone, Matt Murdock/Jessica Jones, Frank Castle/Dinah Madani, Kate Bishop/Yelena Belova, Kate Bishop/Clint Barton,  for a fuller list, please check out my fandoms & pairings page at my fic community.

Interests/Hobbies outside of fandom: reading, watching tv/movies, playing with my cats, play video games
Friending policy: Sure
Where to add you: flareonfury at dreamwidth, AO3, LJ (not active there though), and Tumblr. Harpiebird at FFN. LadyWolf in online TCGs circles.
What you do in fandom: write fanfics, do graphics sometimes, start communities, challenges or fansites

Other fandoms you like:
So many... lately Wednesday, High Potential, Sense8, The Bastard Son & Devil Himself, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, various DC titles/shows/films/cartoons. Check out my Fandoms & Pairings page at my fic community for more overall stuff.

Today's discussion is a challenge:

If you have written today--Open the first WIP you find and write one (1) word.

If you have not written today--Open the first WIP you find and write one (1) word.

Yes, it's the same challenge, dw about it.

It doesn't have to stay in the final version.  It doesn't need to make sense.  Just add one word.

I believe in you!

October sign up

It's time to sign up for the October WIP challenge! Some people join the challenge mid month, or comment on check-in posts without signing up, which is fine -- I'm glad there's a way for the challenge to be useful in a variety of ways. For those of you who find the commitment of signing up useful, please leave a comment with the below information.

Sign-ups will be open until the end of October.

Level of challenge: 1 chapter, 1000 words, 1 fic finished, whatever you like
Fandom(s) involved: if you know at this point
What you're looking for from the challenge: this could be as vague or specific as you like: someone to be accountable to, someone to remind you to write, someone to bounce ideas off, etc.
What you could offer other participants yourself: ditto!
How people should contact you: DW message, e-mail, IM etc.
Time zone: useful for seeing who might be up for a writing session at a time convenient to you

Copypaste below:

The post for hosting the daily check-in is here and thanks to everyone who helps out with this. If you're interested in helping out and there are still slots available the post remains open until the last week of the month and we generally run our week Sunday to Saturday, I'm happy to chat via PM on DW for anyone who might need it.

If you have ever completed a fic through this challenge we have a collection on AO3 and on SquidgeWorld both collections are open and unmoderated. Should there be an issue with adding a work, let me know and I'll see if there's a fix for it.

The wide spread objections won through, and Jimmy Kimmel is back on the air, making zero concessions/bullshit apologies.
Kimmel’s show to return Tuesday, but Sinclair will continue to keep it off its ABC stations.
But not all of ABC’s affiliated stations will be carrying Kimmel’s comeback show. Sinclair, one of the country’s biggest owners of local TV stations, said its ABC affiliates will preempt the show “beginning Tuesday night.” Sinclair said it will air news programming in the time slot instead.

“Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return,” a Sinclair spokesperson told CNN.

Sinclair’s conservative owners condemned Kimmel last week and contributed to ABC parent Disney’s decision to pull the show from the airwaves.

If there's one thing I've learned from a life with chronic illnesses, it's that daily energy is not constant, no matter what we do.  Some days you can do a lot, and some days just making it to the next day is a lot.  Writing is like that, too.

And sometimes, even when you have the energy for writing and no other tasks that need to get done instead, you still just don't want to write.  And that's OK, too.  Our brains need rest the same as our bodies.  Besides, when you come back to your writing, you'll be that much fresher and eager to do it.

Forgive me a few moments of astrology talk, but I promise it's leading somewhere.

Today was a partial solar eclipse (not visible in my part of the world, but holy cats, was it felt!) and the astro-weather has been, uh... well, it's been!  And when you're in these kinds of times where brains might be buzzing less with ideas and more with static, it's important to give yourself grace if you're not "as productive" as you want to be, however that looks to you.

So make sure you take time to rest!  If you've written anything at all today, congrats!  Celebrate it and take some time to decompress.  If writing hasn't happened at all today, that's fine!  Read over a piece of your writing you're proud of (whether finished or a WIP) and do something fun as a reward for being kind to yourself.

celestial ([personal profile] batlatte) wrote in [community profile] addme2025-09-21 09:12 am

Trying the dreamwidth thing again!

Name: Celestial

Age: 31

I mostly post about:

my personal life, thoughts, day to day stuff. Sometimes mental health/trauma related stuff. Crafts, occasional outfit photos. Cat pics. I also recently did a huge family photo archiving project, so I want to share some cool old photos and what I know about the people in them.

My hobbies are:

I like dabbling in different types of crafts. Primarily into making beaded jewelry, but I've also been learning stained glass this year and that is really cool. Trying to get into reading again. Taking photos, doing home DIYs, watching a lot of movies and TV. I like fashion, but don't dress up much lately (trying to fix that).

My fandoms are:

not a huge fandom head in the traditional sense anymore. I'm a diehard My Chemical Romance fan since I was literally 10 years old. Also a big Nicolas Cage fan, almost finished with a quest to see every single movie of his. Can't think of many others off the top of my head but I fixate on stuff for a while and then forget about it.

I'm looking to meet people who:

are also neurodivergent (audhd here). have a wealth of different experiences and points of view. anyone who is willing to read and occasionally comment.

My posting schedule tends to be:

I'm aiming for once a week this time around, but may be more or less depending on what's going on in my life.

When I add people, my dealbreakers are:

No TERFs, no centrists or republicans, no Zionists. I don't care if you're personally religious but I'm not and don't appreciate that perspective in regards to my own life. No Harry Potter fans, it's lame if you're still into that given... everything. Don't be a shithead in general. And probably no one under 21.

Before adding me, you should know: Hmm. As I said, there may be the occasional post about mental health/trauma stuff. I'm also regrettably a true crime enjoyer, i rarely talk about it but if I do I'll tag. Unsure about anything else that might be relevant

Name: Nora Neurosismancer (they/she)

Age: 41

I mostly post about: Whatever is on my mind, also my daily poetry when I'm happy enough with it to share.

My hobbies are: Poetry, paganism, witchcraft, and so much music. I'm big into all things gothy: darkwave and coldwave, post-punk, synthpop, new wave, industrial, metal, and just outright werid shit. Oh, and I do competitive air guitar.

My fandoms are: Star Trek and Trek-adjacent stuff, also I'm deep in the fandom for various bands, especially DEVO.

I'm looking to meet people who: Post interesting stuff. Bonus points if you're trans or some other flavor of queer.

My posting schedule tends to be: I'm aiming for a couple posts a week.

When I add people, my dealbreakers are: No minors, no TERFs, no Nazis, no Evangelical Christians, no Harry Potter.

Before adding me, you should know: I write some pretty emotional, and sometimes sexually oriented poetry. I've precious little filter about adult topics.

Marvel Stars Stand for Jimmy Kimmel: Pedro Pascal Defends Free Speech While Others Endorse Boycott

Pascal’s post came on the heels of other Marvel stars taking their support a step further by endorsing a boycott of the studio and its subsidiaries, including platforms that stream their work. Marisa Tomei, who played Aunt May opposite Tom Holland in the Spider-Man franchise (a Marvel property distributed by Sony, though she appears in Disney releases from the Avengers universe), reposted a call to “unsubscribe and boycott” platforms under the Walt Disney Company umbrella, including Marvel, ABC, ESPN, Fox Entertainment, Hulu, Pixar, Lucasfilm and Bamtech Media.

Tatiana Maslany, who starred in the title role of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, a Marvel series that debuted on Disney+, posted a behind-the-scenes photo of herself on set, urging her Instagram followers to “cancel your Disney+, Hulu, ESPN subscriptions!” Mark Ruffalo, who played the Hulk on the big screen, participated in a No Kings online event during which he weighed in. “My industry doesn’t really understand what’s happening right now, but what they do understand is our freedom of speech is being attacked.”
