Shutting down fic comments
Mar. 10th, 2022 08:05 pmOff the heels of my last post, I've decided I am going to go ahead and shut down comments almost completely going forward. The more I thought about it, the more I realised I should have done it ages ago. I could just not respond at all to comments, but that just feels rude. And I'd much rather just put something up with zero stakes. Just, here's a story I've written, please enjoy.
At this point, I've shut down comments on everything that's been completed. Fics that still have comments left on are
- God of Outcasts
- Key Largo
- Tarbell vol 2
- When the Dust Settles
- Random Scribblings
- God of Outcasts Artbook
- Isla Nublar
- 2022 Sketchbook
I'm leaving the comments open on the WIPs just because I know people are enjoying them and want to comment, but I will turn comments off once the fics are finished. I'll leave comments open indefinitely on the meta post, as well as the God of Outcasts Artbook, because those are posted specifically to invite conversation. As for God of Outcasts, I have no idea what I want to do with it. Part of me wants to close comments on that one as well, and just invite people over to the meta posts/here if they want to discuss it. But this is a fic with no end in sight, by design, so I can't just wait until it's finished to close them off. So it's in this weird place where I don't want the fic I write to be a social place, but I know people will want to talk about it. idk, I'll make that decision later once I've figured it out.
I'm not doing this because of wank or mean comments, like some people on Twitter thought. I just don't want any expectations attached to my fics, in either direction. And if someone does want to share their thoughts with me about something I wrote, I'm leaving avenues open for it. The meta post will continue to house notes for all of my multi-chapter fics, plus there's my site, Dreamwidth, and my newsletter. At the end of the day, I just want to share my stories with people, without all this extra weight and expectations attached. So that's what I'm doing.
