I'd completely forgotten about this until I read it again last night. Which is funny, given this was the entire point of the fic I posted a couple days ago.

Loki, you little shit )

That's it. That's my entire fic.

I was very drunk last night, and decided to get back into it. I haven’t been able to reliably keep up with comics since I moved up to this area. I tried their physical subscription service, but it was hilariously unreliable and months behind. So I just... quit reading comics some time around 2015.

And since last night, I’ve mostly caught up with all of the Loki titles. The only one I didn’t finish was Vote Loki, which I remember trying when it dropped (pirated probably, if I’m honest). I couldn’t get into it for the same reason I didn’t get into it last time. It’s a highly political comic that released during one of the the single most stressful election years in my memory. And the art is bad.

I mean, he’s supposed to be early/mid 20s, and they drew him looking like Nicholas Cage stretched out on silly putty. I hate that lazy, overly-lined style in general, but can usually ignore it if the story is good.

It’s 2021 and I still do not have the mental energy to read a highly political comic during yet another stressful election year.

But I’ve been complaining a lot lately that I miss fandom. I miss the idiocy and the unapologetic time sink that it can be. I don’t have a lot of hobbies outside of work, and being stuck in bed to an injury for the last month and a half has sort of forced me back into fandom because I have been unable to work. (TL;DR, mobility disabilities and a badly sprained shoulder are a bad combination.) But re-reading Agent of Asgard, and then (almost) everything that follows has put the bug up my ass to dust off my series, and get to work. The most recent Loki title especially. I’ve seen people get really nervous or uncomfortable when canon goes and uses the same idea they’ve been playing with, but goddamn I love it. A story I published years ago alluded to Loki in the final days of the Wild West, playing cards and swilling liquor in Deadwood. And Loki #5... *finger kiss*

Precisely what I imagined, but with fewer horned crowns. And Wolverine was in another story entirely.

The idea that Loki is now the god of stories is my favourite thing ever, because what else is Loki Annoys the Marvel Universe, if not a giant What If run?

I’ve done 250,000 of exposition. Now part 3 starts, and all of that setup will finally start to pay off. The god of stories will replace the god of lies within the MCU.

The new run is precisely what I needed. I can’t wait.
