This one needs some explaining, because it's frankly a lot.
Background information #1: I have no molars on top, because growing up poor and spending the first two decades of your adult life in a prolonged mental health crisis does a number on your teeth. I have a partial denture, but they don't fit so I don't really wear them like I ought to. And since I got the teeth I do have fixed and straightened this year, the dentures really don't fit so fuck it basically.
Background information #2: A Weyerhaeuser paper mill about six blocks down the road from me caught fire last month, burned for about a week, and apparently triggered a migraine that I am still off and on struggling to shake. I'm on several medications for it, one of which has some oral health implications and side effects, and that's where the real problem starts.
Because last week, I burnt myself where I've got no teeth, which happens a lot. It's an easy thing to do, and now I'm all irritated and fucked up back there, which is fairly normal. But around Thursday I started noticing a weird taste in my mouth. I didn't think much of it until the weekend, at which point everything was closed and I couldn't do much about it. Now, it's Monday, and something is very clearly wrong. I don't know what's going on, so I looked up the hours for my dentist and tried calling as soon as they opened at 7am. Well, they didn't answer the phone. I tried a few times, and they still didn't answer the phone, so I let myself get put through to this emergency line. But the woman on that line didn't seem to understand what the hell I was talking about. I told her I had a foul taste in my mouth and some irritation where I'd earlier burnt myself, and she deadass said, "So you have no symptoms?"
I'm losing my mind, and responded that I feel like tasting like something's died in my mouth seems like a symptom to me. Probably not the best thing I could have said to her, but like, wtf lady? She got my information and said she'd put me on the on-call list, but I still don't think she was taking me seriously, so I waited a bit until I was certain my local clinic was open and just rang them back and was able to get in at 3pm today.
Then, because I knew that one of my migraine medications can fuck with oral health, I went online to get all that specific information so I could relay that to my dentist cuz I like to have that sort of thing at hand. I've always been the sort of person to be chronically over-prepared, and that's when I saw that one of the CALL YOUR DOCTOR NOW side effects for it is the sudden onset of a bad taste in your mouth. So I've also done that, but they're unable to get me in today. I spoke to the nurse on their help line, and he told me to see my dentist and make sure it isn't an infection first. If it isn't, I'm going to pop round to my clinic when the doors open tomorrow morning at 7:45 and grab one of the will-call appointments because apparently this is the sort of thing that can absolutely fuck you up. But also I shouldn't stop taking the migraine medication until I see my doctor either, because the nurse couldn't really advise me on anything either way.
So now I'm just sitting here killing time until I can leave, but because it's Monday in a small town everything is closed so I can't even go out to do anything between now and then. If it were any other day I'd be able to go downtown to distract myself by hanging out in the shops, but now I guess I'm going to play the game of, "what happens first?" and see if my new trainers will get here before I need to leave. Ugh
