Chapter notes: second rite #12

Nah, seriously, this was a very fun project I had to keep secret up until, well. Technically tomorrow, but I don't think many people read these notes. And I feel bad about putting this up with absolutely zero context. With the amount of time everyone—not just myself, but the readers—have put into this, I don't want to be mean or insulting about it. So, it's just a fun little April Fool's gag that was hilariously good fun to write.
But this was a very fun secret April Fool's exchange thingy that I'd been invited to participate in over on Dreamwidth. The premise is a character swap. Participants wrote a chapter of their fic using someone else's Loki. The Loki I'm using is from Dendrite Blues' fic, If You Had To Choose. I picked this one because I needed a Loki who was on an extreme end of the spectrum: either the bag full of cats Loki, or one who was so beaten and broken he barely resembled himself. Literally anything else would have just felt a touch off, but not off enough to be noticable.
But their Loki is 2012, canon-compliant, and bitchy as hell. And then in chapter 3, I knew I'd made the right choice when he loses his goddamn mind over his true form. Yes, perfect. Now let me give you horns and really break what precious little grip of your sanity you have left. I pulled their Loki not from the point at which their fic leaves off, because I wasn't sure if it would update by then and invalidate it anyway. He comes after chapter 3, when he and Tony are leaving from their failed mission to retrieve the Time Stone. It felt like a good point to split, because he's just getting comfortable with this new role, and also because he's been given a mission. He must clear the fog from his future. So why not start by having him confront himself in the present first? And that means waking him up with blue skin and horns and missing teeth, on the floor of some Jötunn house on the tundra. Just make him face all this shit head on.
Obviously, this chapter is not part of the fic. It will be moved to its own upload when the real chapter goes up. My schedule keeps getting weird and I'm dying of food poisoning from some dodgy shrimp as this goes up, so I'm aiming for over the weekend at some point. At the same time, I'm unsure which series to put it in when it does go up. Because this fic also serves my own needs in holding up a mirror to the series and seeing where the true divergences have actually come into place. I may very well stick it into the main series, AN the hell out of it, and let it serve as some piece of meta, backstage information. The story thus far, and all that. IDK. We'll see.
At the same time, this is an idea I really kind of want to explore on its own now. I've gone so far AU with this series at this point that there's no room for MCU Loki even now. He's been muscled out, and I don't think he'd like that very much. It sounds like a lot of fun, honestly.
Dendrite Blues also used one of my Lokis in their submission. Go check out what Trickster God Loki is up to over in their fic, Once Tamed. They also needed a Loki on the extreme end of the spectrum, and Trickster God definitely fits that bill.
