Newsletter + Malapropism going self hosted
Aug. 9th, 2023 12:27 pmI'm more excited about Malapropism in this, honestly, because this is the project that I wanted on a platform like Substack the least. About two days after I got everything set up, Wordpress announced they had their own baked-in system for newsletters now, which is something I wanted from them about a year and a half a go. I just wish they'd announced this about a week earlier, but here we are. It's taken some getting used to, but here it is.
I've got it set up more or less exactly as it was on Substack, and if you signed up over there, you're automatically signed up here on Wordpress, so there's no worry about missing anything. If you do want to follow this project, I do recommend signing up for the mailing list, because that will be the way to make sure you get to read the whole thing for free. I'll put together subscription options at launch, but Wordpress does also have a separate tip jar (something Substack lacks), which is currently set up just in case.
Wordpress' newsletter system is missing some important features, but I'm still going to make it work as I'd originally planned. I will be archiving posts after a certain amount of time, so either signing up for the mailing list early, or becoming a paid supporter will be the only ways to be able to read the whole thing. I still have no idea when to expect the first chapter to go out, but I'll have a better idea of that when I have a good amount more written.
